Buy a Diamond:
Putting It All Together

Now you should have every detail filled out on your checklist. If not, go back now and complete the checklist.

Now we will explain how to put it all together, make your decision, buy a diamond, and save money doing it.

How to Negotiate the Best Price

Internet Jewelers
If you are buying from a one of the top-rated internet jewelers, you will be getting the best price available from a reputable dealer. You won't find better prices with that kind of service and integrity anywhere else. And if you need anything after the sale, they wil be there with the same impeccable service, especially at Union Diamond.

Local Jewelers
If you are buying from a local jeweler in your area, please keep in mind that it does cost more to operate a local showroom and offer you the showcases, lighting, convenient store location in a high rent retail space, bank loans for extremely expensive inventory, hard-to-find insurance so that jewelers can make it easy for you to shop and compare in your neighborhood, etc. All of these are expenses that Web businesses do not have. Many of our customers believe it's worth a little more to see what you get, buy from someone local that you know and trust, get it set in front of your eyes, and work in person on the design of the setting, etc. The jewelers that passed our tests, also passed for having some of the best prices in the country, along with excellent selection and service. So be fair in your pricing figures, and they will treat you with the same fair and honest dealings you would want with such an valuable item.

When Someone Else Buys Your Diamond

If the diamond you like is already gone when you call back, ask your personal dealer to find another diamond as close as possible in size and quality. The good places will always do this with you.

Give a little leeway, and don't expect the exact same diamond in every detail, since no two stones are exactly alike. Nature does not make a diamond on demand like an auto factory can make a car to your specifications. Most high quality diamonds are quite rare, and you might be setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment if you set your goals too precisely. It is not worth the stress. This should be a wonderful experience for both of you, so take it easy and don't get obsessed with any one quality of diamond. Keep your choices as two clarity grades, two color grades, and a few points range for carat weight. This should usually allow enough of a selection to find one quickly in most sizes and shapes.

Setting Your Diamond

Once you have chosen your diamond, work with your dealer to arrange for a setting. Settings are not our chosen specialty at Diamond Helpers. Perhaps we will write some articles on this topic later, but that will be a huge undertaking since we will want to do it properly.
